TradesWork vs Kickserv (2026): an honest comparison

TradesWork vs Kickserv on price, users, contracts, QuickBooks, reports, memberships and the tech app. Kickserv is far cheaper for small crews; see why.

Updated October 15, 2026 · 7 min read

Bottom line

Kickserv is one of the least expensive published options in field service software, with QuickBooks Online and Desktop sync, a 30-day trial and plans from $60 a month for 5 users. TradesWork costs several times more and fits HVAC, plumbing and electrical shops of 3 to 50 techs that need memberships, good/better/best selling, refrigerant records and an AI receptionist. A small general service crew is usually better off on Kickserv.

Choose TradesWork if…

  • Pick TradesWork if you run 3 to 50 techs in HVAC, plumbing or electrical and memberships or replacement sales matter to revenue.
  • Pick TradesWork if you want after-hours calls answered and booked without hiring an answering service.
  • Pick TradesWork if your techs need to build estimates and take photos with no signal.

Choose Kickserv if…

  • Pick Kickserv if you're a small crew and price matters most: 5 users for $60 a month is hard to beat.
  • Pick Kickserv if you run QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Pick Kickserv if you do general service work and don't need memberships, refrigerant logs or AI answering.

This is our own product compared with Kickserv, so read it with that in mind. Here's the plain truth up front: Kickserv is much cheaper than TradesWork, and for many small crews that settles it. Every Kickserv fact below comes from its own pricing page, help center or terms, checked October 15, 2026.

Where the two differ is depth. Kickserv is a lean, affordable job, estimate and invoice system with good QuickBooks sync. TradesWork is built for HVAC, plumbing and electrical shops of 3 to 50 techs that earn their margin on memberships, replacement sales and a busy phone.

Where Kickserv is stronger

Price, by a wide margin. Kickserv's pricing page lists Start at $60 a month for 5 users, Run at $119 for 10 and Scale at $199 for 20, with 20% off on annual billing.1 A 3-tech TradesWork shop on Essentials pays 3 × $79 = $237 a month on annual billing. If you're a small crew doing general service work, Kickserv costs a fraction of TradesWork.

QuickBooks, both kinds. Kickserv lists QuickBooks Online from Start, and QuickBooks Desktop on Run for an extra $50 a month.1 TradesWork syncs with QuickBooks Online only. If your bookkeeper lives in Desktop, TradesWork isn't a fit today.

A longer trial. Kickserv offers 30 days free.1 TradesWork offers 14 days with no card.

Payment rebates. Kickserv's Kickback program takes 5% off monthly fees when your online payment volume clears a minimum: $1,000 a month on Start, $2,000 on Run, $3,000 on Scale.1

Custom reports and an API. Run and above can build custom reports from templates, choosing fields, filters and groupings.2 Kickserv also has a public API with per-employee API tokens.3

Track record. Kickserv has been around for years. TradesWork is new in 2026 and far fewer shops run on it.

Where TradesWork is stronger

Memberships. Kickserv handles recurring jobs. TradesWork runs memberships end to end from Pro: dues charge themselves, failed cards are retried with an update link, visits come due on schedule, and member pricing applies automatically on estimates. For HVAC and plumbing shops, that recurring revenue is often the business.

Selling bigger jobs. Techs build good, better and best options from your price book on their phone, with a monthly payment shown under each, and old units and repeat repairs get flagged for your comfort advisors.

The phone. TradesWork's AI plan includes an AI receptionist, in early access, that answers after hours or when you're busy, handles emergencies with safety instructions first, and passes non-customers to your team. Missed calls get a text back, and the caller's history pops up before you answer. Kickserv's pricing page lists automated reminders and an embeddable contact form, not call handling.1

HVAC records. Equipment history per unit, a refrigerant log tied to each tech's EPA 608 number, leak repair deadlines and warranty claim tracking.

Office seats. Kickserv plans cap users at 5, 10 and 20.1 TradesWork charges per tech or sales seat; office staff are free.

A tech app for dead zones. TradesWork Field keeps saving estimates, notes, photos, forms and time with no signal, in English and Spanish.

Kickserv's terms set an initial term of one month or one year, picked when you create the account, that renews for the same length. Termination by written notice takes effect at the end of the current term, and an annual term can't be converted to monthly before it renews.4 The same terms let Kickserv disable an account that sits inactive for 60 consecutive days.4

Day to day

Office. Kickserv's jobs board moves work left to right from Unscheduled to Completed, with opportunities turning into estimates and then jobs.5 TradesWork adds a dispatch board with a live map, smart day planning and one-tap re-planning when a job runs long.

Techs. Both have iPhone and Android apps. TradesWork walks each visit step by step, lets techs talk instead of type, and includes HVAC calculators.

Owners. Kickserv's 20+ default reports cover sales, work and finance, including Account Aging and Customer Balances.6 TradesWork lets you ask plain-English questions of your numbers and shows job profit and commissions.

Questions to ask in each trial

Kickserv gives you 30 days and TradesWork gives you 14, so run real jobs through both rather than a demo account.

Ask Kickserv:

  • Which plan do we need for custom reports and QuickBooks Desktop, and what's the 12-month total on annual billing?
  • How do membership-style maintenance plans work: is it recurring jobs only, or can dues bill automatically?
  • What can our techs do in the app with no signal?
  • What exactly does the Account & Billing data export include, and in what format?

Ask TradesWork:

  • How do our Kickserv customers and items map in the spreadsheet importer?
  • How should we set up our recurring maintenance customers as memberships, and when does billing start?
  • How does the AI receptionist handle our after-hours calls and emergencies?
  • Which financing lender do we use until lenders are connected? (They aren't yet.)

Then write both down as a 12-month total, with card processing and the office time setup will take.

Switching from Kickserv to TradesWork

TradesWork has importers for ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber and FieldEdge, not Kickserv. You come across through the "Another system or a spreadsheet" importer: customers with their addresses and your item list as a price book, from CSV or Excel, with column mapping and a preview. Job and invoice history stays in your Kickserv exports as an archive. Saved cards are re-collected by a secure link.

One warning matters more than anything else here: Kickserv's help center says cancelling permanently deletes your account information, including customer and job records.7 Export first. Our guides cover how to export data from Kickserv and the full Kickserv to TradesWork migration.

Which should you choose?

Kickserv if you're a small crew, price is the deciding factor, you use QuickBooks Desktop, or you don't sell memberships.

TradesWork if you're a 3 to 50 tech HVAC, plumbing or electrical shop where memberships, replacement sales and every answered call add up to more than the price difference.

For the bigger picture, see TradesWork vs Jobber, TradesWork vs ServiceTitan and the buyer's guide, and score your shortlist with the field service software scorecard.
