This is our own product compared with Successware, so read it with that in mind. Successware has been building software for residential contractors far longer than TradesWork has existed, and on back-office accounting it does more than we do. Every Successware fact below comes from its own website, checked October 15, 2026, unless we say otherwise.
The short version: both aim at residential HVAC, plumbing and electrical shops. The deciding question for most owners isn't features. It's where your books live. Successware has accounting built in. TradesWork syncs to QuickBooks Online.
Where Successware is stronger
Accounting in the same system. Successware describes a fully integrated, cloud-based accounting solution covering accounts receivable and payable, credit card account management, invoices, income statements and balance sheets.1 Price book items are set up with sale and expense types, so office staff don't choose ledger accounts on each transaction.1 Payroll connects to ADP and Intuit QuickBooks Payroll.1 TradesWork has no general ledger. If you like running the field and the books in one place, Successware does that and TradesWork doesn't.
Depth for residential service. Successware's site lists call booking and CRM, dispatching, sales and marketing, inventory and back-office management, plus an online learning library for Office and Mobile users.2 Its HVAC page says it's built for small and medium-sized HVAC companies and lets you enroll customers in maintenance programs.3
Track record. Successware says it has spent 30 years building its software,3 and it covers HVAC, plumbing, electrical, solar, chimney, septic, indoor air quality and roofing.4 JDM Technology Group announced in March 2025 that it had bought Successware from Authority Brands and that Successware would keep its brand.5 TradesWork launched in 2026 and far fewer shops run on it.
A cloud platform. Successware says the New Successware Platform is cloud-hosted, with better backups and disaster recovery, and keeps the core functionality of Successware Classic.6
Integrated payments. Successware Payments is in-house, integrated processing.3 TradesWork also takes cards in the field and by text, but Successware's version posts straight into its own books.
Where TradesWork is stronger
A price you can see. Successware's site has no pricing page; you request a demo.4 TradesWork publishes Essentials $79, Pro $99 and AI $139 per tech or sales seat a month billed annually, or $91, $114 and $160 month-to-month, with a 14-day trial and no card.
The phone. TradesWork's AI plan includes an AI receptionist, in early access, that answers after hours or when you're busy, books existing customers, handles emergencies with safety instructions first, and passes everyone else to your team. Missed calls get a text back. Successware's call booking is built for a CSR at a desk.2
A tech app for attics and crawlspaces. TradesWork Field keeps saving estimates, notes, photos, forms and time with no signal, on iPhone and Android, in English and Spanish. It walks each visit step by step and lets techs talk instead of type. Successware Mobile focuses on job details, invoicing and paperwork from the field;3 ask in a demo what works without signal.
Selling and memberships. Techs build good, better and best options from your price book with a monthly payment under each. Memberships bill themselves, retry failed cards and apply member pricing automatically.
HVAC compliance records. A refrigerant log tied to each tech's EPA 608 number, leak repair deadlines and warranty claim tracking from check to credit.
Where Successware shines
- Built-in accounting with general ledger and financial statements
- Decades of residential trade focus
- Integrated in-house payments
- Call booking screen designed for CSRs
- Online learning library for staff
Where Successware falls short
- No published pricing
- No public export or help documentation we could find
- Older Classic customers may be on a different setup
- Ownership changed in 2025; ask about the roadmap
The accounting question decides most switches
Be clear on this before anything else. If Successware is your general ledger, leaving it means moving your books, not just your schedule:
- Opening balances in QuickBooks Online: bank, A/R, A/P, inventory, as of a cut-over date.
- Chart of accounts rebuilt in QuickBooks, mapped from Successware's sale and expense types.
- Open A/R collected in Successware or carried into QuickBooks as opening invoices.
- Payroll reconnected. ADP and QuickBooks Payroll both work alongside QuickBooks Online.
Talk to your accountant first, and pick a cut-over at a month or quarter end. If your shop already keeps its real books in QuickBooks and uses Successware's accounting lightly, the switch is far smaller.
Pricing in practice
Because Successware quotes, compare your own quote, in writing, as a 12-month total with implementation, payments and any add-ons. Then compare against TradesWork plus QuickBooks Online, which you'd need to pay for separately.
Day to day
CSRs. Successware's call booking screen gathers customer information and schedules the right technician.2 TradesWork shows the caller's history, open jobs, balance and membership before you answer, and the AI receptionist covers lunch, overflow and after hours.
Dispatch. Both schedule and dispatch from a board. TradesWork suggests who should go where from skills, arrival windows and drive time, and re-plans the rest of the day in one tap when a job runs long.
Owners. Successware highlights visual reporting dashboards and consolidated financial reports across multiple businesses.6 TradesWork lets you ask questions like "why was Tuesday slow?" against your real numbers and shows job profit and commissions. For full financial statements, TradesWork shops use QuickBooks.
Questions to ask in each demo
Ask Successware:
- What's our 12-month total, with implementation and payments, in writing?
- Are we on Successware Classic or the New Successware Platform, and does that change anything for us?
- If we leave, which data can you export as CSV or Excel, in what format, at what cost, and how long do we keep access?
Ask TradesWork:
- How do we bring our customers and price book in from a Successware export?
- What does our accountant need to do to move our books to QuickBooks Online?
- How do we set up our maintenance agreements as memberships?
Switching from Successware to TradesWork
TradesWork has dedicated importers for ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber and FieldEdge. Successware isn't one of them. You come across through the "Another system or a spreadsheet" importer: customers with their addresses and your price book, from CSV or Excel, with column mapping and a preview. Job and invoice history stays in your archive.
Getting those files is the hard part. We couldn't find public Successware documentation for exporting data. ServiceTitan's help center, a competitor's, says hosted Successware customers ask Successware Customer Support for a data backup (in formats such as .BAK, .ZIP or .MDB) and an A/R Aging report in Excel.7 A database backup isn't a spreadsheet, so ask Successware in writing for customer, location, agreement and price book exports as CSV or Excel. Our guides cover how to export data from Successware and the full Successware to TradesWork migration.
Which should you choose?
Successware if its accounting is your general ledger and you want to keep it that way, or if your team is trained and it's working.
TradesWork if your books are in QuickBooks Online (or you're ready to move them), you want a published price and month-to-month terms, and you want an AI receptionist, a no-signal tech app and refrigerant records.
For the high end of the market, see TradesWork vs ServiceTitan, and use the buyer's guide and field service software scorecard to score your shortlist.
