How to migrate from Zuper to TradesWork: an honest switching plan

How to migrate from Zuper to TradesWork: who shouldn't, what imports, what stays behind, card re-collection, a six-week timeline and how to cost it.

Updated October 15, 2026 · 10 min read

The steps at a glance

  1. 1

    Confirm the fit

If you're a roofing or exteriors company, a manufacturer with field service, or rely on Zuper's configuration and enterprise integrations, stay on Zuper. TradesWork fits residential HVAC, plumbing and electrical service shops.

  2. 2

    Check your Zuper agreement

Find your contract end date and notice period and plan your cutover a few weeks before it.

  3. 3

    Export from Zuper's Report Builder

Build and download one Detailed Report per module: Customer, Organization, Property, Products, Assets, Service Contracts, Jobs, Estimates and Invoices, splitting anything over 20,000 rows.

  4. 4

Start the phone port in week one

In TradesWork go to Settings, Phones, Numbers, Routing and Texting, then Bring your numbers. Keep the old service until the port shows done.

  5. 5

Import customers and products into a sandbox

In TradesWork open the import page, press Another system or a spreadsheet, drop the Customer and Products reports, match the columns, check the preview and import into a sandbox company first.

  6. 6

Set up properties, equipment and memberships

Add extra properties by hand, add equipment from the Assets report, and recreate homeowner maintenance contracts as memberships.

  7. 7

    Run both, then cut over

Schedule daily Zuper reports, put one crew on TradesWork, then the office. Finish open jobs in Zuper, re-collect stored cards, then end Zuper at your agreement's end date.

Moving from Zuper to TradesWork is quick on the data side: your customers and your products list import in minutes. The rest depends on how much of Zuper you use. Zuper is a configurable platform with its deepest tools in roofing and exteriors, 60+ integrations, and SOC 2 and ISO 27001 listed in its trust center.12 TradesWork is a simpler, opinionated system for residential HVAC, plumbing and electrical service shops of 3 to 50 techs.

So the first step is the honest one: decide whether you should switch at all.

This guide is written by TradesWork, so read it with that in mind. Zuper facts come from its documentation, help center and trust center, checked October 15, 2026.

Who this switch is for

Switch if

  • You're a residential HVAC, plumbing or electrical service shop
  • Homeowner maintenance memberships drive your revenue
  • Nobody on your team has time to own Zuper's configuration
  • You want published per-seat prices and free office seats

Stay on Zuper if

  • Roofing and exteriors are your core work
  • You're a manufacturer servicing equipment in the field
  • You rely on enterprise ERP integrations
  • Customers or insurers require SOC 2 or ISO 27001 from your vendors

The whole move on one page

  1. Week -2

    Decide and export

Check fit and your agreement's end date. Build and download one report per module. Raise the Your Data request. Start a TradesWork trial and request your phone port.

  2. Week -1

    Sandbox import

Import customers and products into a sandbox company, fix leftover rows, check prices. Create membership plans and add your team.

  3. Week 1

    One crew live

Import into your real company. Add extra properties and key equipment. Schedule daily Zuper reports. One crew starts on TradesWork Field. Connect QuickBooks Online with a cut-over date.

  4. Week 2

    Office and cards

The office books new work in TradesWork. Send card links. Zuper is used only to finish open jobs and collect invoices.

  5. Week 3

    Everyone

Remaining crews move. Re-drop a fresh Customer report to pick up changes.

  6. Week 4

    Close out Zuper

Port shows done. Run final downloads of customers, open jobs, estimates and invoices. End Zuper at your agreement's end date.

Our Zuper export guide shows every click path. In short:

  • Report Builder: Reports, Reports (beta), + Create New Report, Detailed Report, then the primary module. Up to three more modules and 30 columns per report.3
  • Row limits: a download holds up to 20,000 records; split bigger modules with a filter.3
  • Data requests: the Your Data section of the trust center.2

For the Customer report, add the main property's address fields if your setup allows it, so every customer row carries a service address.

Bring it into TradesWork

Open Settings › Integrations and go to the import page. You need the Owner or Admin role. Zuper isn't one of the named sources, so you use Another system or a spreadsheet, which takes a customer list and a price list. Here's the whole flow on real screens.

1. Choose Another system or a spreadsheet

The source buttons sit across the top of the import page; press Another system or a spreadsheet. Drop CSV, Excel or a ZIP, up to 50 MB per drop. TradesWork never logs in to Zuper.

What makes the Zuper files go in cleanly:

  • Addresses. If the Customer report has no address, the import still works, but those customers won't have a service location yet. Better to add the property address fields to the report and download it again.
  • Organizations. If you serve businesses as well as homeowners, drop the Organization report as a second customer file. Organization names with no person name come in as commercial customers.
  • Custom fields. Columns with no TradesWork field stay behind in your file. Map the one or two you really use to Notes and leave the rest in the archive.
  • Prices. "$1,249.00" is fine. Text isn't an amount and lands on the leftovers list.

Customer list

What you set up by hand

  • Properties. Add extra locations for customers that have them, using the Property report as your list. If that list is long and commercial, reconsider whether TradesWork fits.
  • Equipment. Use the Assets report to add units at your most-serviced customers; techs add the rest on their next visit.
  • Memberships. Use the Service Contracts report. Create plan types, enroll each member with their next visit date and member pricing, and set the first TradesWork billing date after their last Zuper charge.
  • Workflows. Zuper lets you configure job templates, statuses and checklists. TradesWork has a fixed visit flow (arrive, diagnose, show options, do the work, wrap up) and a form builder. Rebuild only the checklists techs actually use each week.

The side-by-side run, and re-importing newer exports

Schedule the Customer, open Jobs and Invoices reports to email you daily, so you always have a current copy.4 Put one crew on TradesWork Field, then move the office, then everyone. Finish open jobs and collect open invoices in Zuper.

During the run, drop the latest Customer report into TradesWork again. Customers are matched by an ID column if your report includes one, or by name and address, so a re-drop updates what's there instead of duplicating it. Keep the Zuper customer ID field on the report for this reason. Re-drops add and update; they never delete.

Check every history file's row count against Zuper's totals: a jobs download that stopped at 20,000 rows looks complete until you need row 20,001.3

Payments, phones and QuickBooks

Cards. Zuper's customer portal keeps cards in a wallet stored by Stripe, and its documentation says neither the business nor Zuper can see the card details.5 So cards don't come across. Keep charging each customer in Zuper until they save a card through the TradesWork link you send.

Phones. Numbers move by porting. In TradesWork go to Settings › Phones › Numbers, Routing and Texting and choose Bring your numbers. Ports take one to two weeks. Keep the old service until the port shows done.

Accounting. TradesWork connects to QuickBooks Online. Connect the same company and set a cut-over date: only invoices and payments created in TradesWork after it post, and imported customers post nothing. Turn off Zuper's accounting sync on the same day. If you're on an ERP such as Sage Intacct or Acumatica, TradesWork doesn't connect to it.

Give notice on time

Zuper doesn't publish prices,1 and your agreement decides when you can stop paying. Find the end date and notice period in week -2, and send notice in writing.

What switching really costs

CostExampleYour number
TradesWork subscription8 × $99 = $792 a month billed annually, or 8 × $114 = $912 month-to-month; office seats free
Zuper during the overlapYour current invoice per month, until open jobs close and your agreement ends
Zuper products you dropPay, Fleet, Connect and Glass are separate products on Zuper's site1
Office time1 to 3 days: reports, properties, equipment and memberships (example)
Tech training2 hours per tech (example)
Card re-collectionOffice time over several weeks

If you can't name where TradesWork earns back its cost (memberships, replacement sales, office time), stay on Zuper.

Frequently asked questions

Through its spreadsheet importer, not a dedicated Zuper importer. A Customer report and a Products report from Zuper's Report Builder come across after you match the columns on screen, with a preview before anything is saved. Extra properties, assets, contracts and job history don't import.
