What every plumbing estimate needs
- Your business name, contact details and license number
- Estimate number, date and how long the price is valid
- Clear options (good, better, best) with what each includes
- Warranty terms and any permit or inspection fees
- Deposit required, if any
- A place for the customer to approve and sign
Pricing plumbing work
- Use flat-rate task pricing: (task hours × fully loaded hourly cost + parts) ÷ (1 − target margin). Build your hourly cost from wages, burden, truck, tools and unbilled time.
- Charge a diagnostic or trip fee that covers the cost of getting a plumber to the door, and decide up front whether it's credited toward approved work.
- Set a clear after-hours rate or multiplier and tell the caller before you roll the truck. Surprises cause disputes.
- Price water heaters as complete packages: unit, fittings, venting or code upgrades, permit and haul-away. Show tank versus tankless as options.
